Selling healthy food: why clear communication matters

You've probably asked yourself many times: How can I sell a lot more healthy products? How do I convince my customers that my products are good? Or maybe: What do I need to sell my healthy food? Well, José Codoni, a great professional with international experience at leading marketing and branding companies, will help us answer all these questions.

Let's take it step by step…

Healthy food is a constantly growing market, but for customers to choose your products, you need effective communication that convinces them your offer is the best option for their health and well-being.

Key points to get started

  1. Know your product: It's important to know the food you sell inside out, from its ingredients to its production process. That way, you'll be able to answer your customers' questions and give them accurate information about the products.
  2. Know how to sell your product: The way you present your healthy food can influence your customers' purchasing decisions. Use effective sales techniques, such as highlighting the product's benefits and offering free samples, to persuade your customers and increase your sales. But we'll look at this in more depth later.
  3. Get others to sell it: Another effective strategy is to build partnerships with other businesses or influencers who can promote your healthy food to their audience. This can help you reach a wider audience and increase your brand awareness. Make sure you choose partners who share your values and business vision.

Once it's clear that these three points are super important for the growth of your business, we can move on to effective communication.

But… how do you create effective communication?

Here are some ideas for achieving effective communication when selling healthy food:

  1. Know your customers: Research the needs and preferences of your potential customers. If you know who you're talking to, you'll be able to tailor your communication effectively.
  2. Use simple language: Avoid technical or complicated terms that could confuse your customers. Use clear, concise language that everyone can understand.
  3. Highlight the benefits: Focus on the health benefits your product offers, such as less fat, sugar or cholesterol, among others. Highlight natural ingredients and healthy production processes.
  4. Show off the quality: Use high-quality images and attractive presentation to show the quality of your products. Presentation matters when it comes to healthy food, because it's what catches your customers' attention.
  5. Provide nutritional information: Include clear and accurate nutritional information on your product packaging so customers know exactly what they're buying.
  6. Be honest: Don't exaggerate the benefits of your products and don't hide important information. Be honest with your customers and you'll earn their trust.
  7. Use social media: Social media is an excellent tool for promoting your healthy food. Use images, videos and educational content to attract customers and build their loyalty.

Remember that effective communication is key to selling healthy food. If you manage to communicate your products' benefits clearly and convincingly, you'll succeed in this growing market.

Why the different roles matter throughout the sales process

To communicate well, we need to consider the sales process of each product and the roles of each of the players involved, in order to build good communication. From the producer's role all the way to the end consumer.

  1. Producer: The process begins with the producer, who is in charge of producing the healthy food. The producer must make sure the food is of high quality, certified and compliant with health and safety standards. They have complete knowledge of the product (properties, use cases, how to consume it) and of the brand; they are the person who holds the story, the purpose and the value proposition.
  2. Marketing: Once the food has been produced, the next step is marketing. This includes planning the marketing strategy, designing the packaging and labeling, and setting prices.
  3. Point of sale: Once the products are ready to be sold, you need to choose a suitable point of sale. This can include physical stores, online stores, farmers' markets, etc. It's how you'll distribute your different products: in person at physical shops (printed materials – advice – QR code + info) and virtually, ONLINE (social media – email – WhatsApp).
  4. Communication: Once you have an established point of sale, you need to effectively communicate the benefits of your products to your potential customers. Use marketing and advertising techniques, such as online ads, social media and print advertising, to reach your target audience.
  5. End consumer: Finally, the end consumer is the one who buys and eats your healthy food. It's important to make sure your products are available somewhere easy to access for your customers and that you offer good customer service to build their loyalty.

Remember that every step in this process is crucial to selling your products effectively. From production to the sale to the end consumer, you need to pay attention to every detail to ensure the success of your healthy food business.
